The PORTO network includes automatic weather
stations in key ports in Malta (Grand Harbour,
Ċirkewwa, Mġarr and Delimara) and Sicily (Ragusa,
Pozzallo and Mazara del Vallo). This operational
system provides holistic information necessary
for safer navigation in ports especially during
entry/exit of big ships.Developed within the CALYPSO South project the Maltese stations have been installed by the University of Malta and Transport Malta, while the Sicilian installations are under the responsibility of University of Catania and the Istituto per lo studio degli impatti Antropici e Sostenibilità in ambiente marino (IAS-CNR). The real time data management and web publishing is done by the University of Malta.
